Welcome to Wild Goose Acres! We’re so glad you’re here! We’re Rachel and Daniel, aspiring homesteaders on our 20 acre farmette in southern Wisconsin. This is where you can read about our adventures gardening, raising chickens, driving horses, and hanging out with our puppy (aka wild goose), Lucy.
We bought our farm in the spring of 2021 with our pony Elliott. It was evident early on that he needed a buddy, so a few months later, Smokey the Shetland arrived and they’ve been joined at the hip ever since. We also got a garden going right away and although I had a lot to learn, it was quite productive from the get-go!
In 2022, Lucy joined the family and has definitely kept us on our toes! She’s half German Short Haired Pointer and half Lab and 100% wild goose! Okay, maybe I’m just kidding on the goose part, but sometimes I wonder…
We also added a flock of 24 meat chickens and expanded the garden. We keep working toward the goal of raising all of our food in the most sustainable, organic way. I can’t wait to see what this next season brings!
